Period Timber Conservatory

We were approached directly by the owner of this magnificent Grade II listed building with a view to either repairing or replacing the 30-year-old "Amdega" conservatory to the south elevation. An inspection revealed that a poorly-formed valley gutter was causing damp issues where it attached to the house and the cedar softwood frame supporting the glazing was badly rotting away. After careful consideration, it was decided a full replacement was the most cost effective and best way forward. Once we had achieved a suitable design for the new building, planning was the first step; as the house was of historical interest, listed building consent and full planning permission was sought through the local authority. We successfully worked through the process of achieving a full permission over a 12 week period.

The replacement conservatory, although similar in footprint, houses many features to help bring the building up to a modern day standard, which includes high performance double glazed units, electrically operated ventilation, solar controlled glazing and long lasting hardwood timber to offer the new building longevity. The joinery was finished internally and externally in Farrow & Ball "Off White" and the internal plasterwork in Farrow & Ball "String". The specialist hardware to the windows and doors is finished in polished brass and was supplied by "Traditional Hardware Ltd." to our own specification.

The Lady of the house was delighted with the replacement conservatory commenting "I am sitting in the conservatory as I write and very much enjoying it". We are now through the initial stages of second development on this beautiful home.
